There is a crack in everything
that’s how the light gets in.
Leonard Cohen
I think about this line and song a lot whenever I work on kintsugi. Sometimes we have to create the cracks in ourselves, our life, our thoughts, our feelings, our beliefs, to let any sort of light in.
And while many elements of life can seem stressful, very few of them are stressful. We experience stress as a result of them, but it’s not a direct cause. It’s a correlation. The stress is a result of our thoughts and feelings and beliefs interpreting these elements of life. Granted, there are exceptions. I don’t think it is possibly to be struck by lightning and not experience some very definite types of stress. But, I like trying to look at the elements of life that I find distasteful as simply getting a new crack. Perhaps some more light will be able to come in.
