Ah, Garfield
It is pretty difficult to argue that Mondays are not imperfect days.
But they can also be beautiful days. Today has not been a physically beautiful day at all. Yesterday, I was wearing shorts and sitting outside to read. Tonight should be the first frost.
And, since it was Monday, I had to put on pants this morning and go to class to talk about writing. And that was interesting enough that it generated an assignment I didn’t expect, and won’t bore you all with. But, now, I have 3 separate daily writing practices. This blog and two different discussions in class that I will be posting in every day. It’s not a huge amount of writing, but it’s writing about 3 completely different things every day.
Today’s practices weren’t stressful, but I look forward to seeing how this affects me as the next week progresses. And while I think it is foolish to assume that beauty will always be a result of this, I think it is very safe to assume that strength will be a result of this. And I think that gaining new strength is beautiful in and of itself.
So, unlike Garfield, I don’t hate Mondays, but I certainly don’t always love them. And I don’t love lasagna. But I did eat pizza today, which he also loved. And when I was younger, I absolutely loved Garfield comics. They were beautiful and funnier than almost anything I had ever read.
If you think that Garfield is not funny or not interesting, I’d recommend Garfield Minus Garfield. It’s my favorite example of changing the context of a text to change the meaning and reveal new meaning.

Enjoy your reading and enjoy your Monday.
